Matchbook announces new downtown HQ and hiring plans.
Indianapolis-based marketing and advertising firm Matchbook Creative is spending nearly $1 million to establish a larger headquarters downtown and plans to more than double its work force by 2019.
Founded in 2006, Matchbook Creative currently occupies about 3,500 square feet of space at 2509 N. Delaware St. in the commercial development that includes Goose The Market. Late last year, it purchased a two-story, 12,000-square-foot building at 1317 N. Pennsylvania St. to be used as its new headquarters.
After gutting and renovating the vacant building, the firm plans to occupy 5,000 square feet on the second floor and lease the 5,000 square feet at street level to a tenant. The 2,000-square-foot basement would be considered shared space.
Between funding from the firm and its owners, the building purchase and renovation will run about $940,000, according to Christy Gormal, chief operating officer. The company expects to make the move to its new space in May.
The 12-person firm plans to hire 20 more people by 2019, and the Indiana Economic Development Corp. has offered Matchbook as much as $100,000 in tax credits and up to $45,000 in training grants based on its job-creation plans. The incentives are performance-based, meaning they can’t be claimed until Indiana-based employees are hired.
Matchbook currently is hiring for account management, design, public relations and web positions. It intends to increase its strategic, creative and multimedia production offerings for its clients, which include Rev Racing, Indy Eleven and USA Track & Field.
“We love being able to contribute both value and employment opportunities in our community, and we hope to bring this previously vacant building to life and help attract new business to the Old Northside Neighborhood District,” said Donna Gray, Matchbook’s CEO and president, in a written statement.
